Fire Extinguisher

A fire extinguisher is a portable device that is designed to extinguish or control small fires. It typically consists of a cylindrical pressure vessel that contains an agent used to extinguish a fire, such as water, foam, dry powder, or CO2. The agent is expelled from the extinguisher by means of a trigger or lever mechanism.

Fire extinguishers are classified according to the type of fire they are designed to extinguish:

  • Class A: fires involving ordinary combustibles such as wood, paper, and cloth.
  • Class B: fires involving flammable liquids and gases.
  • Class C: fires involving electrical equipment.
  • Class D: fires involving flammable metals.
  • Class K: fires involving cooking oils and fats in commercial kitchens.

It is important to use the right type of fire extinguisher for the type of fire you are trying to extinguish, as using the wrong type of extinguisher can make the fire worse. Fire extinguishers are also rated by their capacity, measured in pounds or kilograms, and the larger the rating, the more fire it can put out.
