Waterstops
Waterstops are devices or systems that are installed in concrete structures to prevent the passage of water through joints or cracks in the concrete. They are designed to seal and protect the joints and cracks from water infiltration, and are commonly used in structures such as dams, reservoirs, tunnels, and underground structures. There are several types of waterstops, including:
- Integral Waterstops: These are made from the same material as the concrete and are cast into the concrete as part of the pour.
- Prefabricated Waterstops: These are made from a different material than the concrete, such as rubber or PVC, and are inserted into the joint or crack after the concrete has been poured.
- Injection Waterstops: These are used to seal existing leaks or cracks in concrete structures. They consist of a flexible material that is injected into the joint or crack under pressure, sealing the leak.
- Hydrophobic Waterstops: These are made of a material that swells when it comes into contact with water, creating a seal to prevent water infiltration.
- Expansion Waterstops: These are made of a material that expands when it comes into contact with water, creating a seal to prevent water infiltration.
